In July 2020, we had our first meeting with Marc from Blue Chip Builders Qld. This meeting started a relationship with the Blue Chip Builders Qld team that lasted for the next 18 months through the design, costing, and build of our new home.
Through the whole process, Blue Chip Builders Qld partnered with us to understand our requirements and, more importantly, our vision for our new home. This was exemplified when they even offered suggestions to improve our initial home concept during the build. They were willing to invest time with us over and above our initial expectations. As the project progressed, the Blue Chip Builders Qld team worked collaboratively to find solutions to the constraints of building restrictions, block size, and budget.
The way in which Blue Chip Builders Qld structured the contract provided transparency to the costing of the house build. This allowed us the freedom to decide where we wanted to make savings or where we wanted to be a bit more indulgent.
Any time there was a decision to be made, we were collaborators, together, to ensure the best result in a timely manner. Any time we had questions, the team was more than happy to answer them in a timely manner. And believe me, we had lots of questions, as this was the first time we had built a house.

We must first start the journey from our beautiful 2.02 hectare block located in Highvale near Samford. We built there in 1992 and stayed there happily for 28 years. We made the tough decision to leave in 2019, since even though we loved it there, it became harder to maintain and enjoy our lives. We decided to sell up and move to a smaller block.
We bought a 500 square metre block in the Ellendale Estate in Upper Kedron. We then went on a long search for a builder. We did not want the cookie cutter design but something that was customised to our wants and needs. After a long search we became despondent with only a few that drew our attention, but did not get the feeling that they wanted to build something unique that suited us. By chance, a friend of ours from Samford had just built a lovely house in Bribie Island and highly recommended a company called “Blue Chip Builders Qld”.
I rang them on advice from my friend. We set up a time and date. Before we met he asked us to view a construction that they were renovating. Even though it wasn’t to our style, we were very impressed with the workmanship and attention to detail with that build.
From that moment onwards, we felt we had a good connection. We also met with Marc Santa, and he designed our perfect home. The design process was attentive to our every want and need without exception. We had lots of ideas and Marc would put in his ideas of what we could afford and we went from there. The design changed a few times before we finalised on a plan. Nothing was too much trouble.
When we finalised the plan, Blue Chip Builders Qld came to us with an excellent price and said that once we agreed on the price, that will be it. We compared it to other builders and Blue Chip Builders Qld was in the ball park figure of what we were prepared to pay.
We have a steep sloping block which required strong foundations. Double story at the front and single story at the back. The biggest problem we had was to decide on how we do the footings at the back. With the help of the structural engineer, a cost effective plan was developed to save us money and time by digging in cement piers and steel posts.
The construction went smoothly and if Chris Bakker, who was the construction manager, had a problem - no matter how small it was, he would ring us. We would go over and we would solve it together. This was a regular occurrence. Chris would ring us if he was not happy with the way something looked. Chris would always say that he wanted us to be happy, and if we did not like the way it was done, we were to let him know. He would have it rectified without fail. Nothing was ever a problem, and that made this whole experience so enjoyable.
Overall, we have thoroughly enjoyed building our new home with Blue Chip Builders Qld. Everything was done on time, and the entire build went to plan. Chris would often put forward suggestions that would keep to the style of the house – we were after the Hamptons style – and these little ideas just put the house into another category. Obviously, these suggestions cost a little more, but ultimately it was our decision as to whether we wanted to go ahead with them or not.
